Turn 1 : 4000 BC ================ I check what I'm up against in the space race view : England Ottomans Celts France Zululand Japan Aztecs America Iroquois India Thats 4 militaristic civs. I was scared already, but more so now! Interestingly there's only 1 scientific civ. I don't know that this affects my goals much though, I'm just hoping to survive and not lose via diplomatic again (any other loss is just fine:). First things first, lets rename those units so we can tell them apart (don't forget shift-n). Treasure -> Treasure 1 Treasure -> Treasure 2 Treasure -> Treasure 3 Worker -> Worker 1 Settler -> Settler 1 Settler -> Settler 2 Leave "Sancho Panza" as is. What's that about anyway? OK. Now for some moves. I think Sir Plebs idea of using the treasure chests to explore at the start is a good one. Treasure 1 NE to hills. That's more like it! 2 cows to the NE (1 on grassland, 1 on plains), a wheat on flood plains to the south west. Treasure 2 S to flood plains. We see some Incense SW, but not much else. It would be useful to see what's around that wheat. Treasure 3 W. OK. We've got two settlers to place. We don't know what is near the wheat yet. We don't want to settle in the flood plains and its a long way to go past the wheat without knowing what's there. The hill with Treasure 1 on it will be able to reach both cows and the wheat when it expands as well as the flood plains and a bonus grassland. Thats a lot of powerful tiles! It would be nice to share some of those powerful tiles with a 2nd city. I'm thinking 2 NE of the hills to have immediate access to both cows and potential grassland/bonus grassland to the NE. It's a bit of a way, but worth it I think. That means all my initial worker tasks are going to be on the cow tiles, so everything needs to move NE. So, Sancho Panza NE, Worker 1 NE, Settler 1 NE, Settler 2 NE. Turn 2 : 3950 BC ================ Settler 1 settle Madrid. Worker 1 N to the 1st cow. He sees to bonus grassland an hills to the north of the lake. Settler 2 NE along the river (could get to the propose destination just as fast by following Worker 1, but I don't want to put all my eggs in one basket if there are barbarians about already!). Sancho Panza N to follow Worker 1. I'm not sure what to do with the Treasure chests yet. I've seen suggestions of rushing a Granary, or maybe even a Temple in the 2nd city. For now move Treasure 1 NE to follow Settler 2, Treasure 3 NW to the hills for a view (it sees lots of coast/sea, not much land. Treasure 2 E to the Wheat (sees what looks like forested grassland south of more floodplains and mountains 2E). Change research to 100% pottery. This leads to a negative income, but this should even out when the 2nd city is settled. Change Madrid's production to Warrior. I'm not sure it's worth prebuilding the granary with a barracks yet as the barracks currently says 14 turns (which will reduce on growth) and pottery is 27 turns aways (which will reduce on settling city 2 and growth), and it would be nice to do some exploration further afield with warriors, which at least have 1 defense. We've got 4 turns to think about this though. Turn 3 : 3900 BC ================ Treasure 1 explores E. Sees flood plains following the river NE, some mountain gold at the end of the river, bonus grassland NE of the proposed 2nd settlement site. Settler 2 NE. Another bonus grassland! Dare we dream of building the Pyramids in the 2nd city? That's 8 shields per turn at size 4, 9 if we mine the NE cow. Thats 400-30(from chests) / 9 = 41.1 turns. That's 1990BC + a bit to grow to 4. We've got a lot of militaristic civs though, and a leader could beat that. Plus that's a lot of settlers to pass up! Worker 1 and and Sancho Panza both irrigate. Treasure 3 NE along the coast, sees hills 2 to the N, with coast NW of them (under FOW). Treasure 2 S, sees forest around the S of the flood plains. Turn 4 : 3850 BC ================ Settler 2 founds Barcelona. Production to Settler. It will take 13 turns for the shields. Currently it will take 7 turns for each citizen, but when we've irrigate the 2nd cow this will improve to 5 turns, so we'll grow in time. On settling Barcelona we see horses 2 to the N. There's also something E of the horse under the FOW. It looks like black lightning with a ping outline, but could be a letter A then another letter. We'll have to take a look! Treasure 1 NE towards the gold mountains. Treasure 3 N along the coast, sees fish W of hills and another bonus grassland NE. I'm not sure I want to move Treasure 2 further S, I don't want to move too far from Madrid/Barcelona in case I want to disband it. I'm probably going to want that Incense fairly soon to avoid lux tax, so move him W to take a look around it, sees a 2nd Incence (both are on Desert). Swap the cows between Madrid and Barcelona so Madrid won't waste any shields producing the Warrior in 2 turns. We're now breaking even with 15 turns till pottery. Turn 5 : 3800 BC ================ Treasure 1 NE to gold mountains. Ahh, can't move to mountains! Move N instead towards mystery tile. It says "Andalusia". It doesn't affect the tile power (still 2 food, 0 shields, 0 gold), I guess it's some Spanish historical reference. I'll have to look that up when I get to work tommorow, left my modem at my Mums when I visited last week! The workers have finished irrigating and start roading. Treasure 3 N to hills E of fish, seeing another river with bonus grassland. Treasure 2 S to hills, seeing bonus grassland S of lower Incense. There's another Fish under the FOW to the south. Turn 6 : 3750 BC ================ Change cows back so Madrid uses the (now irrigated) plains. Madrid produced Warrior 1 and is left to produce another. We've got ~10 turns till pottery is researched, so we can continue doing a little exploring with the chests. I'll use Warrior 1 to explore E, so move E now. Treasure 3 N. Treasure 1 N to Andalusia (I hope that isn't a clue I'm going to need soon!). Treasure 2 S, hills to S and jungle SE and E. Turn 7 : 3700 BC ================ Warrior 1 E. Worker 1 and Sancho Panza NE to grassland Cow. Treasure 3 NE. Treasure 1 N. Treasure 2 S, sees some more horse S. Turn 8 : 3650 BC ================ Warrior 1 E. Worker 1 and Sancho Panza irrigate. Treasure 3 N. Sees mountains/hills 2 N on coast. Treasure 1 N. Looks like more coast N-NE. If thats the N of the island it may be worth exploring the rest of the north with the chests before returning them. Treasure 2 can't explore any further due to the jungle, so retraces his steps N. Turn 9 : 3600 BC ================ Warrior 1 E. Treasure 2 NE to forest, sees Dyes in Jungle to E. Treasure 3 N. Treasure 1 N. False alarm, it was a lake, not the coast. There's grassland Wheat W. S of Wheat would make quite a nice settlement with access to water and bonus grassland. I should have swapped the cows again. Swap them now so Madrid only overruns by 1. Turn 10 : 3550 BC ================= Change Barcelona to the river bonus grassland to the south (to avoid food overrun). Change Madrid to use both Cows and to produce a Settler. Madrid produced Warrior 2. Fortify so keep Madrid happy. Worker 1 and Sancho Panza road. Warrior 1 E. He sees another letter (C) under the FOW 2 NE. Treasure 2 NE. Treasure 3 N to coastal hills. Sees Furs N of Wheat near Treasure 1. Treasure 1 N. Sees another Furs NE of ones spotted by Treasure 3. Turn 11 : 3500 BC ================= Treasure 2 E. Sees another floodplains Wheat. This one has a bonuse grassland next to it. Warrior 1 E. The C was for Catalonia. Treasure 1 N. We're due to finish Pottery in 5 turns. We have to up lux to 20% (do it now while we remember) as Barcelona has grown (and no MPs around), increasing it to 7 turns. Even with the 30 shields from the chests it's going to be a while before Barcelona is able to produce a granary, so we might as well continue exploring with the chests. Treasure 3 N. Treasure 1 N. We've c*cked up the timing of Barcelona's growth. Change it to use both Cows. It will waste 3 shields as it won't grow in time. Change Madrid to the river grassland and bonus grassland. Turn 12 : 3450 BC ================= Madrid just expanded. The governor change to the Wheat and the forest to the the NW, which seems reasonable for now. Treasure 3 N. Treasure 1 E. Warrior 1 E. Sees a cow and some coast. Is it possible Cracker has been really nice and put us on a massive island (otherwise know as a continent:) by ourselves? It seems unlikely, but you never know! Treasure 2 E, spots Horses E, and an "L" under the FOW NE of the Horses. Worker 1 and Sancho Panza have finished roading/irrigating the Cows. I'm torn between roading to the next settlement location and continued improvement around Madrid/Barcelona. I'm not sure where to settle next. The forests just N of the southern dyes looks quite good, giving access to the Dyes, on a river, lots of food (both flood plains Wheat and another 3 floodplains) as well as shield from the 3 surrounding forest tiles. I would like to road/irrigate the Wheat for Madrid anyway. Where should I start the road, S or SE of Madrid? S looks like it makes it easier to get to the Incense, but that's an illusion as the Wheat tile can get there just as fast. SE makes it possible to reach the bonus grassland south of Barcelona without double crossing the river. Move both workers SW-S-SE. Turn 13 : 3400 BC ================= Worker 1 and Sancho Panze road. Treasure 2 was originally going to go S, but wants to know what L is for. He moves E instead. Ahhh, L is for LaMancha! Warrior 1 NE to hills SE of Cow. He confirms that the water is the E coast, spotting fish E-NE. It looks like a narrow N-S massive island (otherwise know as a continent. If we were French we'd now be experiencing that deja-vous feeling:). I can't believe we still haven't seen another civ. Treasure 1 E to explore the NE unexplored area. He sees Game on the coast. Treasure 3 N. It looks like the NW coast is going form a headland as there is more coast to the NE. I was never intending to explore so far with the chests, but it seems to have worked out pretty well so far (fingers crossed). Is it possible that Barbarians are off? It will make quite a change from rampaging. From the horror stories I had heard I thought I would be struggling to survive at this point on Deity. Turn 14 : 3350 BC ================= Treasure 2 S. Sees more forest to the S. Warrior 1 is going to let Treasure 1 explore the NE, so moves S. See more coast to the south with some Ivory. Treasure 3 N to hills SE of gold mountains. See mountains N-NE with coast to NE and NW of them. Treasure 1 E. Turn 15 : 3300 BC ================= Barcelona produces Settler 3, and build a Warrior next. Change Barclona to the grassland Cow and Madrid to the plains Cow and Wheat. Settler 3 W-S-SE. Worker 1 and Sancho Panza S to the Wheat. Treasure 2 S. Sees impenetrable Jungle SE and SW, but passable forest S. Warrior 1 S to coast NW of Ivory. The coast turns S after moving W. He spots Fish S. Treasure 1 S. Spots grassland Wheat SW. Treasure 3 W to confirm the NW coast. Set lux back to 0% now Barcelona is size 1 and Mardrid garissoned size 2. Up science to 90% to complete Pottery next turn. Turn 16 : 3250 BC ================= Complete Pottery and start on Writing. Worker 1 roads. Sancho Panza irrigates. Settler 3 S to Wheat (and workers). Treasure 2 S. He's now surrounded by impassable Jungle on 7 sides! What the heck, he needs to head back to Barcelona to help with a granary soon anyway. Warrior 1 W. Treasure 1 E. Treasure 3 E. Change Madrid to use the plains Cow, Wheat and NW forest. Leave Barcelona with the grassland Cow and change production to Granary. Up lux to 20%. I'm not sure about science rate. 100% doesn't reduce the turns to complete below 40. We should be able to reduce that when we increase commerce with the next couple of settlements. Set it to 80% anyway. Turn 17 : 3200 BC ================= Settler 3 SE to floodplains N of intended settlement site. Warrior 1 S back to coast. Treasure 2 N. Treasure 1 E to forest. Treasure 3 E to coast. Spots Whales N-NE. I've just realised we only need 10% lux. Can't increase science to 90% as this sets Entertainment to 0, so leave science at 80%. This saves us a whopping 1 GPT! Turn 18 : 3150 BC ================= An English Warrior appears E of Treasure 1 to the NE. I thought that was the end of the world, where did he come from! We make contact. They haven't got The Wheel, but have got all our other techs. They've got Bronze Working, Warrior Code, 100 gold, 2 other cities (we're pretty close!) and 2 workers. They offer Bronze Working and 2 gold for The Wheel. I'm not sure I'm too worried about Bronze Working/Warrior Code at the moment. I want to make my way to The Republic and Map Making, and should be able to trade for the lower level techs later with no problems. I trade The Wheel and 1 gold for the 2 workers. England are now "Polite". We're not too far behind England on average score, they've got 129, we've got 120. The histograph shows them with more current score/power, but they've got 1 more city than us. That should even out when we settle Settler 3 in a bit. Settler 3 S to settlement site. Spots a French Warrior on our Dyes to the S. I knew my wish of being alone on a continent was asking a bit much! We contact France. Thats more like it. They don't know The Wheel or Ceremonial Burial. They've got Bronze Working, Masonry, Warrior Code, 2 gold and only 1 other city. They accept The Wheel, Ceremonial Burial and 6 gold for Masonry and Warrior Code. France are now "Polite" too. France are in the lead with 130. I go back to England. I could get Bronze Working and 5 gold for Masonry. I don't really want to obsolete our special defense though, we might need it after all. I trade Masonry for 89 gold, leaving England with just 12 gold in the bank. That puts France and England ahead of us in tech as they've got all the 1st level techs, we've got all except Bronze Working. The science adivsor is a bit schizophrenic. One moment he says "We are a backward people." the next "Our scientific research is progressing well"! Rename the new workers to Worker 2 and Worker 3 and the Settler to Settler 4. Where do we go with Settler 4? Some options are : 1) N-NW to the tile NW of the Cows, next to the lake. This would allow further sharing of the Cows. Once Barcelona has a granary I wouldn't expect the Cows to be out of use much though. 2) Near the Wheat 5 N of Barcelona. This could produce more settlers, but is a long way away. 3) Grab the Incence on the SW coast. This won't be very productive, but luxeries will be handy when we grow, and if France is anywhere near that French warrior we will have competition for them. I decide on 3. Setter 4 SE. Worker 3/4 SE too. Warrior 2 isn't needed for MP. I think it would be an idea to take some miltary strength down with all those workers. He moves SE as well. Treasure 2 NW. Warrior 1 S. Is Treasure 1 safe with that English Warrior near by? What will the AI make of the Treasure? Is it attractive? Worth making war for? We must look pretty weak to the AI at the moment, but I don't think it will realise the Treasure's worth. I move Treasure 1 SE to the hills SW of the English Warrior. It sees coast to the east that continues SE. That English Warrior must have came from somewhere. The English don't have mapmaking yet, so I guess there must be a land connection SE to a large land mass to the E. Treasure 3 S. Turn 19 : 3100 BC ================= The French Warrior moves E to the mountains E of the Dyes, leaving Settler 3 alone. The English Warrior moves NE to the mountains N of Treasure 1. Treasure 1 E to the NE coast. He sees the edge of the English border to the E, and a hint of coast S-SE. Treasure 3 E. Settler 3 settles Seville, revealing a little more jungle to the S. Treasure 2 could move the FOW back a bit by moving W, but would then be trapped and have to move E again so moves N instead. Warrior 1 S. The coast move SW with some Whales 2 SE. Where exactly is Settler 4 going to grab the Incense? Desert insn't much use!. The hills SE of the S Incense will act as a harbour town, giving access to a bonus grassland, hills 3 forest and 1 of the Incense (until it grows). We only need 1 until we set up a trade route, and this allows it to have some production. I'm not sure whether to road the desert N of the hills or the forest east (and SW of Seville). The desert would be quicker, but we're planning to use the forest for shields for Seville. We can decide later as we need to get to the floodplains NW of Seville first anyway. Warrior 2 S-S. Worker 2 S-S. Worker 3 S-S. Settler 4 S-S. Worker 1 (just finished roading) S. I check back with France/England. Not much has changed, though France now has Dyes (0 spare). I forgot to adjust the sliders last turn (it was a busy one!). Change science to 100% (it actually drops to 31 turns. Yay!). Madrid is currently using the plains Cow, Barcelona the grassland Cow, Seville the roaded Wheat. That's fine for now. Change Madrid and Seville to produce Defense. There's plenty of room for expansion, so I don't anticipate any wars for a while, but I think it's worth making our military look stronger and building Defense while we still can. Turn 20 : 3050 BC ================= Treasure 1 S to the hills. There is indeed a 1 wide tile connecting to the English land. We've nearly connect the NE coast to Warrior 1's explored area. There's another fish 2 SE. Treasure 3 E along the N coast. Worker 1 roads. Worker 2 roads. I don't think it's worth roading with Worker 3 as it won't decrease the time to completion. Worker 3 SW. Settler 4 SW. Treasure 2 N. Warrior 1 S. The coast continues S again. There's lots of Jungle around here! I think we're going to want one of the bonus grassland tiles near Barcelona mined soon. Sancho Panza N-NE to the river one S of Barcelona. I'm not so sure we want Warrior 2 down here after all. Barcelona keeps growing while it's producing it's granary and could do with some MP. Move N. Change lux to 20% to keep control of Barcelona. I check back with France/England. Not much has changed, just gold. Turn 21 : 3000 BC ================= Sancho Panza mines. Warrior 2 N-NW. Worker 3 roads. Settler 4 SW to hills. Treasure 2 N. Warrior 1 W. Treasure 3 E. Treasure 1. E to look at the English land, or S to start back to our settlements? Knowing about the English land isn't going to do us much good. We're not going to settle up this far for ages yet. OTOH when England expands we're not going to get a chance to wander through this land. OTTH (2nd T = Third) we might want to use this Treasure sometime and it can't be used unless it gets back to a city. OK then, S. Turn 22 : 2950 BC ================= Tacitus just complete his history of "The Wealthiest Nations of the World". We're #1! Warrior 2 N-E then fortifies in Barcelona. Madrid has just produced Defense 1. Fortify it as we can't do anything with it anyway, and it's a more effective Defense 1 when fortified anyway. Quick confirmation, it works for MP. Change Seville to the unroaded unirrigated Wheat to the E. Change Madrid to use the roaded irrigated Wheat, and continue with the plains Cows. Also change production to Settler. Treasure 2 N. (Note the French Warrior has got bored following my treasure around and has turned back S). Warrior 1 S. Treasure 1 W. Treasure 3 S. Worker 1 and 2 SE-S to the Dyes. It's going to take a while to road that Jungle. Settler 4 settles Toledo in the hills nead the Incense. Set production to Defense. We've got more cities than England/France. We've got 4, they've got 3. Why was I so worried about Deity? Change to 100% science as Defense 1 and Warrior 2 are keeping Barcelona and Madrid happy. Turn 23 : 2900 BC ================= Treasure 2 N (he can move a bit of FOW by going N next turn and still get to Barcelona at the same turn). Worker 1 and 2 road the Dyes. That's going to take 6 turns. Warrior 1 S. There's a goody hut! Does that mean there are Barbarians around too? I've seen people suggest that it's dangerous to pop a goody hut unless there's a defensive bonus to help the Warrior against the near inevitable furious barbarian horde. This huts in Jungle, so I guess that will do. Still, no point getting all excited until next turn! Treasure 1 W to hills, seeing lots of bonus grassland between Wheat near N coast and Catalonia. Treasure 3 S. Turn 24 : 2850 BC ================= Treasure 2 N. FOW rolls back to reveal not much, just some plains. Warrior 1 is feeling brave a moves SE to pop the hut. Surprise surprise, 3 angry Pictish warriors!. He does spot more land across the water to the east and he's lead a full and interesting life, so not to worry :(. Treasure 1 S. Treasure 3 S. Change Barcelona from the forest NW of Madrid to the bonus grassland currently worked by Sancho Panza. Change Madrid from the roaded irrigate Wheat to the forest NW (after stopping Barcelona from using it). Change Seville to use both Wheat's. Up lux to 20% to keep Seville happy. Turn 25 : 2800 BC ================= Warrior 1 is no more. He didn't even survive the 1st pictish! Treasure 2 W towards Barcelona. Treasure 1 W into the forest adjacent to the inland FOW. More grassland, another bonus grassland. Treasure 3 SE. Rolls back a little FOW to reveal game. Check back with France/England. Nothing much has changed, though it's nice to see they fear our Defense :). Turn 26 : 2750 BC ================= Treasure 2 W into Barcelona. Treasure 1 S. Treasure 3 S onto Game. Reveals forest and bonus grassland. Barcelona has just grown to 3, but 20% lux is still enough as it has 1 MP. Madrid is going to overrun the shields for it's settler as things stand. I think I would rather make it grow in 1 turn than 2 to allow more MM flexibility for the next couple of turns. Seville is also going to overrun on food. Do some juggling so : Barcelona uses both cows and one of the forests near Madrid. Madrid uses the roaded irrigated Wheat and another forest. Seville uses the E Wheat and one of the forests. Now Madrid will grow in 1 without wasting food, Seville can grow in 2 without wasting food and produce Defense in 1 without wasting shields. I just checked back with France/England. France now has 3 cities. No change in Tech (unless either have Iron Working. Neither are Militaristic, so I doubt it). Turn 27 : 2710 BC ================= Oops, Seville lost production. Working the forest made a difference to the happiness! Toledo produced Defense 2. It fortifies. I think I need some more workers. Toleda can produce one in 5 turns and grow to size to just in time. Do it. Sancho Panza completes the mine and starts roading. Treasure 2 disbands into Barcelona to help a little towards the granary. It contributed 10 shields. Treasure 1 SW. Ooh, another Cow! I wonder how close the Pictish are? Hopefully they've moved W to harass the French :). Treasure 3 S. Up lux to 30% for Seville. When they've produced their Defense next turn we should be able to lower it again. Turn 28 : 2670 BC ================= Seville produces Defense 3, which fortifies. Seville changes production to Settler. Treasure 3 S. Treasure 1 W. Juggle with Barcelona/Madrid so : Barcelona uses a forest near Madrid, the plains Cow, one of the unworked bonus grassland to produce the granary next turn with no overruns. What's the optimum number of food to have when a granary is completed? Barcelona currently has 8 and will have 10 at the end of next turn, exactly half. Madrid uses the grassland Cow the mined bonus grassland, the roaded irrigated wheat to produce another Settler next turn with no overruns (an 7, yes Seven, extra food!). Set science back to 80% now Seville has MP. Turn 29 : 2630 BC ================= We've completed a road to the Dyes! Barcelona completes the Granary and start on Settler. Madrid produces Settler 5 and start on a worker. Treasure 3 W. Treasure 1 W. Worker 1 and 2 N-E to unimproved Wheat. I don't know what to do with Settler 5! It's getting late, I can tell what with the stack of albums I've listened to during this 1st session. I've been feeling in an old time mood : Aretha Franklin : Love Songs (sounds sissy, but lots of excellent tracks) Dusty Springfield : Dusty in Memphis Frank Sinatra : 20 Classic Tracks Lionel Richie : Back to Front Loius Armstrong : The Very Best of The Mamas & the Papas : Best of - OK, I'm back. I've delayed thinking about Settler 5 long enough. Long term we need to stake out some territory quick before France/England take all we have surveyed. We could easily sink 20-25 settlers into the land we know about. I'm not sure that's realistic if we're going to have competition for that space, but it's nice to hope. It does, however, mean we're going to want a lot more settlers. Even with all those Wheat/Cows and a granary in Barcelona I think we need to concentrate on another city next to powerful food tiles. I'm thinking either W of the Cow between Barcelona and Catalonia, or S of the Wheat between the Furs and Barcelona. The Wheat should be more powerful with the bonus grassland and river around it, but is 1 tile further away. The Cow would lead us toward establishing territory E to W, so blocking France from move N to S. I'll go for the Wheat first as it's going to be a little while before I can work this settlement and it can manage best without improvements. Settler 5 N-NE-NE. Change Barcelona to us the plains Cow, the mined bonus grass and a forest for max shields. Leave Madrid on the Wheat. Up science to 90% as we can manage on 10% lux at the moment. Turn 30 : 2590 BC ================= Workers 1 & 2 road. I'm going to leave Settler 5 to it's own devices for a little while and instead setup for the next Settler out of Barcelona. Sancho Panza will prepare a path to the E Cow. Moves N. Settler 5 N. What to do with the Treasure? I'm thinking either : a) Kick start Settler 5 with a granary. b) Start some culture with a temple, maybe Toledo? I think I'll go for the culture. Treasure 3 S. Treasure 1 W. Avoid overrunning food in Madrid by changing to the grassland Cow. Change Seville to use the N Wheat rather than one of the forests. Change to 100% Science. Turn 31 : 2550 BC ================= The French have just started the Pyramids. 2 Bulgar Pictish appeared on the mountains S of Workers 1 & 2. I was hoping they would pick on France! Worker 1 & 2 are going to have to run. Stop them roading and move the W into Seville. Sancho Panza E. Treasure 1 S. Treasure 3 SW. Settler 5 N. Swap Seville from the N Wheat to the forest. Change Madrid to use the grassland Cow and the Wheat. Turn 32 : 2510 BC ================= The 2 Bulgar Pictish moved NW to the forest SE of Seville. I'm hoping they will attack Seville and die. Toledo builds Worker 4, who moves NW to the Incense. Change Toledo to build a Temple. I'm not sure whether to move Worker 1 & 2 N so they can do something useful, or keep them in Seville as a lure to the barbs. I would still like to do that roading/irrigating of the E Wheat. They both Skip this turn. Treasure 1 W. Treasure 3 S. Settler 5 N. Sancho Panza roads. Juggle with Barcelona/Madrid so : Madrid uses the Wheat and the mined bonus grassland. Barcelona uses both Cows and a forest. This allows Barcelona to grow this turn without waste and Madrid to finish the worker this turn without waste. Turn 33 : 2470 BC ================= Both Pictish attacked Defense 3. They both died, promoting him to Veteran and knocking 2 health off. Another Pictish appeared on those mountains! The people build us a palace. Madrid produced Worker 5, who moves N-E-E to join forces with Sancho Panza. Treasure 1 W-S-SE. Treasure 3 W. Workers 1 & 2. If that Pictish is the last of the 3 I popped from the hut then we could soon be safe to return to improving the Wheat. I don't really want to waste those turns though. I'll leave Worker 2 (the English one) there until the Pictish goes, miss a go. Worker 2 NW-N. Worker 3 NE-N. Worker 4 roads the Incense. Settler 5 settles Santiago. Change to the Wheat and to produce Defense. Juggle with Barcelona, Madrid & Seville so : Barcelona uses the plains Cow, the roaded mined bonus grassland, another bonus grassland and a rivered grassland. This results in no waste completing the settler this turn +3 food and some extra gold. Madrid uses the grassland Cow. Seville uses both Wheat and the roaded forest. England and France have both finally grown, England to 4 cities, France to 5. (We've currently got 5 + another settler this turn). Turn 34 : 2430 BC ================= Oops, I forgot to entertain now size 4 Barcelona! We won't get that settler this turn after all. Treasure 1 S-S. Treasure 3 W-S-SE. Worker 5 roads. Workers 1 & 3 N-NE-N. Worker 2 misses another go. Sancho Panza E. Up lux to 10%. Change Seville to use the N Wheat, the roaded forest and another forest. This will still overrun the food by 1, and leaves the W Wheat unused, but increases it's shields/gold. I've just realised we can see the new French/English Cities. The English one is just W of the land bridge to the NE. The French one we can see the NE 3 tiles in the SE Jungle near where I popped the hut. Somehow we now have contact with Zululand and India! Zululand are way in the lead, and have even start producing culture. India are between France and England. Current scores : Zululand 431 France 220 India 211 England 201 Spain 199 Zululand have Writing, Mysticism and communications with the Ottomans and Celts, but not with the English. They have 10 cities. India also have Writing, Mysticism and communications with the Ottomans and Celts, but not with the English. Their progress is a little slow with only 4 cities. I'm not sure whether it's worth gaining contact with the Ottomans and Celts yet. They're only going to have the same techs as the Civs I already know about and I can't trade communications with the English until one of us have Writing. I don't want to trade for Writing yet as I'm going to finish it in 6 turns anyway. I think I'll wait until I can sell communications with the English more effectively. Turn 35 : 2390 BC ================= The Pictish died against Defense 3, knocking 1 health off. Barcelona produced Settler 6, who moves E-E. Worker 2 E. Treasure 1 SW-SW and disband into Toledo. Treasure 3 S-S. Worker 1 and 3 N. Worker 5 E. Sancho Panza roads. Change Seville to use the N Wheat and 3 forests (1 of which roaded), to produce the settler next turn. Up lux to 20% for this turn until Seville builds the settler. France still doesn't have contact with England, good! Turn 36 : 2350 BC ================= Seville produces Settler 7. Madrid produces Worker 6. Worker 2 roads. Treasure 3 SW-SW, then disbands into Toledo. That good (read lucky:) timing, Toledo will finish the Temple next turn with no waste. Worker 4 completed the road to the Incense, so set science back to 100%. Worker 4 S to the bonus grassland. I keep leaving one of the Wheat unused, and that really bugs me. I'm thinking Settler 7 could go to the desert tile E-E-S of Madrid. This would have access to both Wheat, 6 other floodplains, 1 bonus grassland, 2 normal grassland. Settler 7 NW-N. Worker 6 E (on the way to road for Settler 7). Worker 1 & 3 road. Settler 6 NE. Worker 5 roads. France now have contact with England, and so do all the others, including the Celts who we now have contact with. England and the Celts don't yet have contact with the Ottomans. They're all pretty much the same, having Writing and Bronze Working over me and 4-6 cities, apart from Zululand. I trade 63 gold with India for contact with the Ottomans (France would also have accepted 63, but they're stronger/richer/closer than India). The Ottomans are annoyed, no idea why, I've only just met them! I trade contact with the Ottomans to the English for 31 gold and contact with the Celts to the Ottomans for 25 gold. I was hoping to make money from that! Never mind, only 7 gold lost, and the Ottomans are now only Cautious. Drop science to 50% to finish Writing this turn. Change Madrid to use the Wheat. Change Barcelona to use the grassland Cow and the mined bonus grassland. Change Seville to use the E Wheat and the roaded forest. Turn 37 : 2310 BC ================= We complete Writing and start on Codes of Law. Toledo finishes the Temple and start on Barracks. Worker 4 Mines. Settler 7 E. Worker 6 SE. Settler 6 settles Murcia and starts on a granary. Sancho Panza and Worker 5 NE-E to the Cow E of Murcia. Barcelona grew to size 3, but we have 2 luxeries so no need to up the lux tax. None of the Civs have anything depending on Writing. Only Zululand has Horseback riding. India and Zululand have Mysticism. I can get Mysticism from India for 102 gold. Would I be able to make that back trading with England, France, the Celts, the Ottomans. The Celts only have 1 gold, England 32, France 37 and the Ottomans 55. I might be able to wangle Bronze Working out of the Celts (they currently want 81 gold for it), but I don't think I want it yet. It still might be worth a go though as they will trade it among themselves soon anyway. Trade 102 gold to India for Mysticism. Trade Mysticism to the Ottomans for 46 gold. Trade Mysticism to France for 37 gold. Trade Mysticism to England for 32 gold. OK, the hard choice. The Celts give me Bronze Working for Mysticism and 4 gold. Thats not a bad deal (the next best off is 1 gold for Mysticism!), but I'm not sure I want it yet. I'll leave the Celts alone for now. Will the other Civs be prepare to accept 1 gold for Mysticism? Hopefully not! The next question. Do I continue researching? I'm thinking I should be able to trade for profit from now on with this many Civs around. I'm not far behind so this should be feasible. Set science to 0%. Turn 38 : 2270 BC ================= Worker 6 roads. Settler 7 NE. Worker 1 & 3 N to the horse W of Andalusia. Aargh! I was hoping that the Cow E of Murcia would be irrigatable (that Murcia would act as a bridge to the mountain spring to the W. I keep forgetting that rivers run around the edges of the tiles, not along to the middles. For now Sancho Panza and Worker 5 road. Turn 39 : 2230 BC ================= Settler 7 settles Valencia. I miscounted. It can only reach 1 of the Wheat! Worker 1 and 3 road. Juggle Barcelona, Madrid and Valencia so : Barcelona uses both Cows, the N roaded bonus grass, the E roaded river grass. Madrid uses the E mined roaded bonus grass. Valencia uses the Wheat. Change Valencia to produce a Worker. Turn 40 : 2190 BC ================= I think I'll come back to Murcia. I'm going to prepare the way for a Settler for Catalonia. That should give access top both Cows and stake out some more territory before the French get there. Sancho Panza and Worker 5 E. Juggle with Madrid and Barcelona so : Madrid uses both Cows. Barcelona uses the S mined roaded bonus grass, the N roaded bonus grass, the E roaded grass, one of the forests. This allows Madrid to finish the worker and Barcelona the settler this turn with no overruns. Turn 41 : 2150 BC ================= I didn't notice Santiage grow to size 2. It's not connected up to the luxeries. I'll come back to it as I don't really want to use lux tax for just this city. Barcelona produces Settler 8. Madrid produces Worker 7. Worker 7 N-NE-NE to the roaded bonus grassland N of Barcelona. Worker 6 irrigates. Sancho Panza and Worker 5 road. Worker 1 & 3 N. Settler 8 E-E-NE to Murcia. That confirms it that river definitely doesn't reach the mountain or we would have been reduced to 2 moves. I'm happy with Barcelonas Settler production, so leave it to produce another. I'm thinking Madrid could do with a granary, so start on one. I'm thinking it might be an idea to build some embassies while they're cheap. It will also give me an idea where the other civs are. Zululand first for 60 gold. Zimbabwe is 24 turns (currently) from building the Pyramids. They've got a mined (bonus?) grassland ready to use when they grow to size 4 in 2 turns and another 3 bonus grass waiting to be used. Zimbabwe is at the very SE of the minimap. The Ottomans next for 58 gold. Sogut is 10 turns from building the Pyramids. They're not growing very quickly (1 food per turn) mainly due to having use an entertainer (they're size 6 with 12 turns to next growth). Sogut is a little W of Zimbabwe. India next for 45 gold. Delhi is very small (size 1) with 2 turns to size 2. They're currently 60 turns from completing The Oracle. There a settler garissoned there. I guess it's just about to go out. Delhi is N of Zimbabwe. England are N of them and I'm not sure there is room for another civ inbetween. Celts next for 37 gold. Entremont is also size 1. It's got a temple an is 79 turns from The Pyramids. I guess there's going to be a lot of switching to The Oracle in 10 turns time! Entremont is N of Delhi, quite close to the English settlement of Camulodunum in the NE of our continent. I guess England must be based N of there close to the top of the world. OK, now to sort out Santiago. It would take 50% lux to sort it out, so reducing our GPT from 15 to 4. I'm not willing to do that. Put an entertainer in Santiago instead of the bonus grassland. It's not long until Workers 1 & 3 can road the last tile to connect it up, so it's only a temporary measure. Turn 42 : 2110 BC ================= Worker 1 & 3 roads. Worker 7 mines. Worker 2 irrigates. Settler 8 E-E. Turn 43 : 2070 BC ================= Settler 8 SE to Catalonia. Sancho Panza and Worker 5 W-W-SW. Worker 4 roads. Turn 44 : 2030 BC ================= Santiago builds Defense 4 and is connected up to the luxes, so change the entertainer to work the roaded bonus grassland. Worker 1 & 3 mines. Sancho Panza and Worker 5 SW. Settler 8 settles Ciudad de la Luna on Catalonia and sets production to Defense. I forgot to mention last turn that we're now in the middle of the current world rankings table, above England, India and the Celts, behind France (though catching), the Ottomans (about even) and way behind Zululand (still pulling away). I'm looking forward to the GOTM20 Spoiler 4 where we find that Zululand had 10 settlers to start with ;-). Turn 45 : 1990 BC ================= Worker 5 roads. Sancho Panza irrigates. Change Valencia to use the newly irrigate flood plains. I meant to change Barcelona from forest to bonus grassland last time to grow immediately. I forgot though and still require 1 more food to grow. We can't improve the shields and still grow (without slowing down Madrid), so leave it to overrun food by 2. I'm thinking Sevilles settler (next turn) can go towards LaMancha to grab that (bonus) grassland before the French. Move Worker 6 SW-W ready to road towards there. Change Santiago's production to Settler. France and Zululand both have Horseback Riding now. France will sell for 2GPT and 95 gold. The other civs haven't got much gold (India 82, the Ottomans 15, the Celts 3) and would be unlikely to give GPT, so I pass it up for now. Turn 46 : 1950 BC ================= Seville produces Settler 9, which moves E-E. Valentia produces Worker 8. Worker 4 E. Valentia to produce Defense next. Worker 6 roads. Worker 8 E to join Worker 6. Juggle Barcelona, Madrid and Valencia so : Valencia uses the NE irrigated flood plains. Madrid uses the plains Cow and the Wheat. Barcelona uses the grassland Cow, the roaded mined bonus grass, the roaded bonus grass, the roaded grass. Turn 47 : 1910 BC ================= Barcelona produces Settler 10. Settler 9 NE. Worker 4. I was going to clear the forest, but will finish too late to help Toledo with it's Barracks. I'll road for now. I'm thinking it's time I grabbed some of those N bonus resources. Settler 10 N-N-N. Worker 8 road. Juggle with Barcelona, Madrid and Valencia so : Valencia uses the Wheat. Madrid uses the grass Cow and the mined bonus grass. Barcelona uses the plains Cow and the roaded bonus grass. Change Barcelona to produce Defense (its about time). Turn 48 : 1870 BC ================= Settler 9 settles Zaragoza and start producing Defense. Worker 6 & 8 SE to the forest N of Zaragoza. Worker 5 irrigates. Sancho Panza NE and irrigates. Worker 1 & 3 and Settler 10 NE. Worker 8 N-N-N. The Celts now have Horseback riding. I still can't make a profit out of it, so leave it for now. Change Toledo from flood plains to the roaded forest (Seville just finished with it for the moment). Turn 49 : 1830 BC ================= Worker 6 & 8 roads. Worker 5 NE and irrigates. Worker 1 & 3 roads. Worker 7 N. Settler 10 NE. Zululand has mapmaking but won't trade it even for 190 gold an 24gpt. Swap the Cows between Barcelona/Madrid so Barcelona has the grass Cow. Change Toledo from roaded forest to roaded plains. Switch Seville from forest to roaded forest. Turn 50 : 1790 BC ================= Barcelona produces Defense 5 and start on a Worker. Worker 2 W-NW and irrigates. Settler 10 NE. Worker 7 irrigates. Turn 51 : 1750 BC ================= The Ottomans city of Sogut complets The Pyramids. Everyone switches to The Oracle. Switch Murcia from the roaded grassland to the roaded irrigated plains. Sancho Panza and Worker 5 NE-E and irrigates. Workers 1 & 3 NE. Settler 10 NE to mountains. Juggle Madrid, Barcelona and Valencia so : Madrid uses both Cows and the E mined roaded bonus grass (this means the food box should be full in 4 turns when it finished the granary). Barcelona uses the N mined roaded bonus grass, the NE bonus grass, the E-SE irrigated floodplains and a forest. Valencia uses the Wheat and the irrigated floodplains. Trade World map and 231 gold to India for Mapmaking. Trade Mapmaking and Worldmap to England for Bronzeworking and Worldmap. Trade Mapmaking to the Ottomans for Iron Working, Worldmap and 9 gold. Trade Mapmaking to the Celts for Horseback riding, Worldmap and 7 gold. Trade Mapmaking to France for Worldmap. Trade Horseback riding to India for Worldmap and 101 gold. Trade Worldmap to Zululand for Worldmap and 59 gold. Zululand and ourselves have got the full worldmap now. Lets trade it/give it to the others. Give Worldmap to England, the Ottomans, the Celts and France. Trade Worldmap to India for 60 gold. So, I made 5 gold, gained nearly half the worldmap (all known by my contacts), Bronzeworking, Ironworking, Mapmaking and Horseback riding. Not sure that matches up to some of the trades in Moonsingers trading thread, but not bad. Oops. I was expecting Ciudad de la Luna, Zaragoza, and Valencia to continue producing Defense and not be able to produce another. Instead they've auto-switched to spearman. Time for bed. In case you're interested after yesterdays playlist, tonight I've mostly been listening to Faithless, followed by a bit of Groove Armada : Faithless : Reverence Faithless : Sunday 8PM Faithless : Outrospective Faithless : Outrospective: Reperspective The Remixes Groove Armada : Northern Star Turn 52 : 1725 BC ================= Zimbabwe complete The Oracle. Barcelona produced Worker 9, and changes to Settler. Workers 6 & 8 clear the forest outside Zaragoza. Worker 9 E-E-NE. Workers 1 & 3 road. Settler 10 E between the Game and the Wheat. Juggle with Barcelona and Valencia so : Barcelona uses the N mined roaded bonus grass, the E-SE roaded irrigated floodplains and the S-SE roaded irrigated floodplains. Valencia uses the Wheat and the NE-E roaded floodplains. Ottomans have Mathematics. They currently want Horseback Riding, 5gpt, 271g and World Map for it. I think I'll wait until a 2nd Civ has it too. Turn 53 : 1700 BC ================= Worker 9 E-E then irrigates. Sancho Panza E then irrigates. Worker 5 E-SE-E to the Cow. Worker 4 clears the forest. Settler 10 settles Pamplona and start producing Worker (for now. I think I might change this later.) India now have Mathematics as well. Ottomans now want Worldmap and 217g, India World Map and 200g. The other Civs don't have much money to offer, Celts 5g, Zulu 10. France has 2 workers valued at 105g each. I'm tempted to get the mathematics to offset the cost of the workers a bit, I wouldn't mind a couple more workers (and incidentally slowing France down). I may not get the chance again any time soon. I'm just not sure if I would be better off just buying them. I think I'll go for the maths and hold off selling it to the others for a bit. Trade World Map and 200g to India for Mathematics. Trade World Map, 26g and Mathematics to France for 2 workers. England only have World Map to trade for Iron Working, Horseback Riding and Mathematics. I don't think so! Celts only have World Map and 5 gold for Mathematics. Not likely! Zulus only have World Map and 10 gold for Mathematics. Yeah, right! Rename the two new workers to Worker 10 and Worker 11. Workers 10 & 11 N-E-NE to the unimproved bonus grass. Turn 54 : 1675 BC ================= Worker 5 roads. Workers 10 & 11 road. Workers 1 & 3 NE. Worker 7 roads. Ottomans have a worker now too, though they want World Map, 1gpt and 96g. This won't leave me with much gold leftover, so I'm not keen. Zulus no longer need maths. Swap the plains cow and irrigate floodplains between Barcelona and Madrid so Barelona has the Cow. This lets Madrid finish the granary with waste and fill the food box this go. Turn 55 : 1650 BC ================= Oops. I thought Madrid would have a full food box, but instead it's empty! Worker 9 and Sancho Panza NE. Workers 1 & 3 road. Turn 56 : 1625 BC ================= Toledo produces Barracks and starts on Spearman. Valencia produces Spearman 1 and starts on worker. Juggle with Seville and Valencia so Seville works the N Wheat rather than the roaded forest and Valencia works the roaded forest near Zaragoza rather than the Wheat. Spearman 1 fortifies. Sancho Panza and Worker 9 road. The Ottomans now have Philosophy (want World map and 143g) Celts have Philosophy (149g) and Literature (1gpt and 161g) France have Philosophy (132g), Literature (159g) and a worker (105g). Zulus have 16g and a worker (119g). India has Philosophy (132g) and Literature (159g). I'm thinking I can probably pay 159g for the literature and trade for the Ottomans Philosophy and the Zulus worker. France or India? I've given India quite a bit of my gold, but I don't want to give France any extra trading power as they're right next to me. I trade with India. Trade 159g to India for Literature. Trade Literature and 1g to the Ottomans for Philosophy. Trade Literature to Zululand for a worker and 12g (they only have 16). Zululand still doesn't have Philosophy and England doesn't have Iron Working, Mathematics, Philosophy, Literature or Horseback Riding. England are getting left behind, and I'm feeling guilty that I talked Elizabeth into giving me her workers (for the Wheel and 1g) back in 3150 BC. She was in desperated competition for territory with the Celts at this point and could have done with those workers. I give her Iron Working, Mathematics and Horseback riding. This leaves her 2 techs behind the leaders, but at least able to content militarily. Rename the new Zulu worker to Worker 12. Oops, accidentally moved SW with the keyboard when trying to press Shift-N! Turn 57 : 1600 BC ================= Santiago produces Settler 11, sets up for a worker next. I think I'm going to place Settler 11 NE of the Wheat just outside a NE border, close the the Celtic city. Settler 11 E. Worker 7 S-E, following Settler 11. Workers 1 & 3 E to the Game SW of Pamplona. Workers 10 & 11 mine. Workers 6 & 8 S-S to the horses. Worker 5 irrigates the Cow. I don't know what key I pressed on the new Zulu Worker 12 last turn, but it just moved SE-SE-E. I attempt to activate so it should stop whatever it was doing next turn! The Zulus still don't have anything to trade for Philosophy (unless you count 4g and a World Map I've already got). I'll leave them a tech behind. It will be a good learning experience for them. They've been leading everything for too long. Juggle with Barcelona, Madrid, Valencia and Seville so : Barcelona uses the S-SE roaded irrigated floodplains, the N roaded mined bonus grass, the NE roaded bonus grass and the E-NE gold mountain (it only needs 1 food to grow and 3 shields to complete the settler. Might as well get some gold). Madrid uses both Cows, the Wheat and the roaded mined bonus grass (that's 16 food from 4 citizens!). Valencia uses the roaded floor plains, the roaded irrigated flood plains and the roaded grassland. Seville uses the E Wheat and both roaded forests. Turn 58 : 1575 BC ================= Seville produces Settler 12. Barcelona produces Settler 13. Zaragonza produces Spearman 2. Worker 7 and Settler 11 NE-E to the Game. Workers 1 & 3 road. Sancho Panza & Worker 1 N. Worker 2 NW. Workers 6 & 8 road the horses. Spearman 2 fortifies. The crazy Zulu Worker 12 has finally calmed down and is following orders. He moves SE-SE to the unimproved bonus grass NE of Zaragonza. I think I'm going to place Settler 13 on the hills SW of the Celtic settlement of Camulodunum, if he can get there in time. This measures out at 5 turns at the moment, but will reduce slightly when Sancho Panza and Worker 9 complete the road. Settler 13 moves E-E-NE. I'm a little unsure about Settler 12. Theres some unclaimed Wheat a little S that I could settle by moving E-S-S (2 turns). This tile is next to a river, has Wheat and a bonus grass (maybe 2 if the territory expands to meet the current S boundary). This could make the French feel hemmed in though and I'm in no condition for a war. Then again, they seem to be concentrating on the southern part of their territory, all the other Civs love me (polite or gracious) and they're all afraid of my Defense. What am I worried about! Settler 12 E-S. I'm going to continue churning out the settlers. We still have plenty of land to claim (all the other civs are starting to look crowded). I reckon at least another 10 settlers. Change production for Zaragoza to worker and Ciudad de la Luna to Settler. I've done some MM and can't remember what I changed. Make sure : Barcelona uses the N and S roaded mined bonus grass and the plains Cow. Madrid uses the grassland Cow, 2 forests and the E-SE roaded irrigated flood plains. Valencia uses the N-NW and E-SE grassland, the E-NE floodplains and the N-NE floodplains. Seville uses the Wheat. Turn 59 : 1550 BC ================= Worker 12 roads. Worker 2 roads. Settler 12 S. Settler 13 E-E-NE. Sancho Panza and Worker 9 road. Worker 7 roads. Settler 11 NE. Turn 60 : 1525 BC ================= Madrid produces Settler 14. Settler 12 settles Aldea de Ribannah. The territory due expand in the N, so it has immediate access to 2 bonus grass as well as the Wheat. Not much use yet at size 1, obviously, but should help in the future. I'm thinking this could do with some culture being right on the French border, so start on a Temple. Workers 6 & 8 have finished roading the horses (I really do mean roading, not riding:). They both move W to the bonus grass. Settler 13 N. (Sancho Panza and Worker 9 were too slow to be of any use!). Settler 11 E. Settler 14 I'm thinking either the fish or Ivory and Iron on the E coast. It's quite a long way to go (4 for fish, 6 for Ivory and Iron) but I still want to expand that way. The Ivory would be especially handy. Moves N-E-E. The Zulus are up to 12 gold and a World map, still not enough. Maybe I can trade Philosophy towards whatever they research next. Turn 61 : 1500 BC ================= Workers 6 & 8 road. Settler 14 E-NE-E. Worker 5 S. Sancho Panza, Worker 9 and Settler 13 N. Worker 1 NE-NE to the Wheat. Workers 3 and 7 NE-E. Settler 11 E. Camulodunum is down to size 2. I think it was 3 last turn. Hopefully it was a worker, not a settler! England have another worker. I'm going to feel guilty about this later again, but I trade Philosophy for their worker and Territory map. Rename the new English worker to Worker 13. Zulus now have 15 gold and World Map. I'm thinking Worker 13 ought to start a road to the fish on the NW coast. He can road the forest I keep using on his way. Moves N-NW to the forest. Change Barcelona and Madrid so : Madrid uses both Cows and the E-SE irrigated flood plains (this allows growth this go). Barcelona uses the N and S roaded mined bonus grass and a forest. Turn 62 : 1475 BC ================= Murcia produced a granary, set to produce worker next. Toledo produces Spearman 3. Settler 14 E-SE-E to the Cow near the E coast. Worker 13 roads. Spearman 3 towards Aldea de Ribbanah, SE-E-SE. Worker 5 roads. Sancho Panza and Worker 9 road. Settler 13 NE to hills (where we want to settle). Workers 3 & 7 road. Worker 1 roads. Settler 11 NE to coast. The Celts have settled Augustodurum since last turn, but its right in the NE corner. Settler 11's border will run along the edge of Augustodurum when it settles next turn. The English now have Literature. I guess that explains while they were willing to trade their worker for Philosophy last turn but not Literature. The Zulus don't need Literature now either. I think they paid a small amount to the English, who currently have 18g. Swap the floodplains E-SE of Barcelona and the roaded mined bonus grass S of Barcelona between Barcelona and Valencia (Barcelona should have the floodplains). Change Valencia so it uses, as well as the roaded mined bonus grass, the roaded floodplains, the roaded desert and another desert. This results in 2 food short for a turn, but completes the worker this turn without waste. Turn 63 : 1450 BC ================= Pamplona produces Worker 14. Valencia produces Worker 15. Barcelona produces Settler 15. Workers 10 & 11 S. Worker 14 S. Settler 13 settles Casa del Bamrapido. Are the current names special Cracker ones. We had Ribbanah mention last time. This one looks like Bamspeedy! Settler 11 settles Vitoria. Settler 14 S. Workers 6 & 8 mine. Spearman 3 SE into Aldea de Ribbanah. Worker 4 mines. Seville swaps from forest clear by Worker 4 to SE forest. Worker 15 NE-N to meet up with Workers 10 & 11. Change Santiago from the forest to the roaded plains. I'm thinking we should really get on with the Forbidden Palace. I want it somewhere N. Pamplona looks pretty good. It's only size one at the moment, so this will take a while but it's already got access to a couple of bonus grass and that forested Game. Where to place Settler 15. Ciudad de la Luna is going to produce a settler for the E coast fish next turn. We're looking north now. I think I'll just settle that gap where the plains changes to grass land NE of Murcia. That will cause all of the surrounding towns to have access to more tiles, including 3 bonus grassland. Settler 15 E-E-NE. Change Valencia from the floodplains to the roaded grassland (haven't seen any disease yet, but just in case). Change Madrid to use the plains Cow, the roaded irrigate flood plains and 2 forests. Change Barcelona to use the grass Cow and the NE mined bonus grass. Turn 64 : 1425 BC ================= Murcia just lost productivity! I thought I was safe with size 4, but I forgot Murcia hasn't got any MP. Ciudad de la Luna produces Settler 16, and starts on a worker. Santiago produces Worker 16 and starts on another. Settler 16 E-E. Settler 14 SE to the Iron hills. Sancho Panza and Worker 9 N to the bonus grass outsize Casa del Bamrapido. Workers 3 & 7 E to the Wheat outside Vitoria. Worker 14 roads. Worker 16 N-NE. Settler 15 E-NE. Workers 10 & 15 road. Worker 11 mines. Spearman 3 fortifies. Warrior 2 (fortified in Barcelona) E-E-NE to provide MP to Murcia. Change Barcelona to use the E-SE floodplains rather than the grassland Cow. Change Madrid to use the grassland Cow rather than the E-SE floodplains. Change Valencia to use the NW roaded irrigated floodplains rather than the roaded grassland. Change Toledo to use the roaded grassland rather than the roaded forest. Turn 65 : 1400 BC ================= Madrid produced Settler 17. Zaragoza produced Worker 17. Toledo produce Spearman 4. Settler 17 N-NE-NE. Warrior 2 fortifies. Settler 15 N. Worker 5 E. Settler 16 settles Santander and starts on Temple. Worker 9 roads. Sancho Panza mines. Workers 3 & 7 road. Worker 1 SE and mines. Worker 16 roads. Worker 12 mines. Worker 17 S-W-S. Worker 2 irrigates. Spearman 4 NE-E-E. Settler 14 S. Swap Barcelona from the flood plain to the N mined bonus grass. Swap Murcia from the grassland to the gold mountains (to get the worker out this turn). France now have Codes of Law (World Map and 250g). India also has Codes of Law (World Map and 251g). The other civs only have : Zulus 13g, England 18g, Ottomans 8g, Celts 5g. I'm still tempted to buy it and hand it round to speed getting to the Republic. I could be wrong, but the tech pace seems to be quite quick, and this could speed it up a bit. On the other hand, I'm not keen on losing 206 gold for it. If one of the other civs would just place a worker in their capital! Anyway, time to stop. Following the theme of the earlier 2 sessions, tonight I've mostly been listening to The Sugercubes (the band Bjork was in before going solo) : Sugar Cubes : Life's too good Sugar Cubes : Here today, tomorrow, next week! Sugar Cubes : It's-It Sugar Cubes : Stick Around for Joy Turn 66 : 1375 BC ================= Murcia produces Worker 18. Settler 17 N-N-N. Spearman 4 SE-E-E. Worker 17 roads. Settler 15 settles Asturias and starts on a Warrior. Worker 5 roads. Settler 14 settles Jaen and starts on a Warrior. Worker 18 E-E-NE. Workers 10 & 15 mine. Workers 6 & 8 S. Swap Toledo from the grass to the roaded forest. Juggle with Barcelona, Madrid, Valencia and Murcia so : Barcelona uses the 3 mined bonus grass. Madrid uses both cows and the irrigated flood plains. Valencia uses the roaded floodplains, the roaded grass and the roaded river grass. Murcia uses the cow, the irrigated plains and the flood plains. Turn 67 : 1350 BC ================= Valencia build Worker 19. Worker 19 S. Workers 6 & 8 road. Worker 17 SW. Spearman 4 E. Worker 18 N then mines. Workers 3 & 7 S. Worker 14 mines. Settler 17 N-N. Swap Toledo citizen from forest to iron hills. Swap Seville from Wheat to forest. Swap Madrid from forest to Wheat. Swap Barcelona from the N mined bonus grass to the irrigated flood plains. Turn 68 : 1325 BC ================= Zulus kindly offer to stay at peace for Territory Map and 34 gold. We're real wimps militarily, so agree. Seville produces Settler 18. Worker 17 SW. Workers 6 & 8 SW. Worker 19 roads. Worker 3, 9 & 7 mine. Settler 17 E. Spearman 4 E. Settler 18 NW-N (Don't know exactly where he's going yet, but it's somewhere N). Worker 16 N to furs. Swap Santiago from the Wheat to the roaded plains. Swap Zaragoza from the SW-SW mined bonus grass to the horses. Swap Aldea de Ribannah from the bonus grass to the mined bonus grass. Move Madrid off the Wheat. Move Seville to the Wheat. Juggle with Madrid and Barcelona so : Barcelona uses the grass cow, the mined bonus grass and the irrigated flood plains. Madrid uses the plains cow, the unworked flood plains, the unworked grass and the mined bonus grass. The Ottomans and India now have Currency. Turn 69 : 1300 BC ================= Zaragoza produces 20 and starts on Temple. Worker 20 NE and mines. Workers 10, 11 & 15 SE. Settler 19 N-NW (I'm thinking I'll put him on the river hills NE of the fish to the NW). Worker 4 just finished mining. Move Toledo from the iron hills to the mined grassland. Worker 4 NE. Worker 17 irrigates. Spearman 4 N. Worker 5 S. Workers 3 & 7 N-E. Worker 9 and Sancho Panza S and mine. Settler 17 settles Logrono and starts on Warrior. Worker 16 roads the furs. Workers 6 & 8 S. Swap Aldea de Ribbanah from the mined bonus grass to the S unworked bonus grass. Move Seville from the Wheat to the mined bonus grass and to produce Barracks next. Juggle with Seville/Barcelona so : Madrid has 1 entertainer, both cows, the wheat and a mined bonus grass (event with the entertainer we have +6 food an will waste a shield producing the settler this turn). Barcelona has the irrigated flood plains, unworked flood plains and 2*mined bonus grass. Swap Murcia from the plains to the roaded grass. The Celts now have Codes of Law too, and will accept World Map and 249 Gold. Turn 70 : 1275 BC ================= I've just seen an Ottomans Galley SW of Toledo. I'm wondering whether it might be worth swapping Toledo from Spearman to Galley and striking W. I would expect the AI to circumnavigate our continent before searching further afield. If we can make first contact with any other land mass then that would put us at quite an advantage for a while. Toledo changes to produce a Galley. Murcia produces Worker 21 and changes to Warrior. Worker 21 E-N. Workers 10, 11 & 15 irrigate. Worker 4 clears the forest. Madrid produces Settler 20. Barcelona produces Settler 21. Settler 21 N-N-E. He's going to settler NE of Andalusia. Settler 20 N-NE-NE. Not sure where this ones going, but somewhere north. Settler 18 N-NW. Workers 3 & 7 road. Worker 5 roads. Spearman 4 N. Worker 6 roads. Worker 8 mines. Do I want any more settlers? Setter 18 and 21 have places allocated. I reckon another 6, including 1 near the whale and 1 near the fish in the far NW. That's Settler 20 + 5 others. Juggle with Madrid/Barcelona so : Madrid uses both cows and the N-NW forest. Barcelona uses the irrigate flood plains and the N mined bonus grass. Move Seville to the Wheat. Move Valencia to the NW-NW mined bonus grass, the N-NW mined grass and the roaded flood plains. Move Zaragoza to the Wheat, bonus grass and mined bonus grass. The Zulus now have Construction. I can't buy it, but they haven't got Currency or Codes of Law. So, currently : England 21g Ottomans 339g, Code of Laws (241g), Currency (440g) Celts 14g, Code of Laws (252g) France 4g, Code of Laws (220g) Zulus 64g, Construction (?g) India 2g, Code of Laws (220g), Currency (402g) I currently have 468g. I reckon I can but Currency, trade it for Code of Laws and the Currency+Code of Laws for Construction, then share Currency+Code of Laws+Construction around for the rest of the gold. Here goes : Trade World Map + 401g to India for Currency. Celts offer World Map + 14g + Code of Laws for Currency. We accept. Hmmm, the best I can do with the Zulus at the moment is Construction for Currency, Code of Laws, World Map, 76g + 34gpt. That seems a bit over the top! I think I'll wait until one other civ has it. The only thing is India might trade Currency/Code of Laws and the gold I just gave them. Arrrrgh! I'm not sure whether to trade Currency/Code of Laws around and get what I can back, or wait and hope to trade for Construction. I leave it for the moment. Turn 71 : 1250 BC ================= Santiago produces Worker 22. Settler 21 NE. Settler 20 N-N-N. Worker 19 irrigates. Settler 18 NW. Worker 21 irrigates. Change Vitoria to the SW-W mined bonus grass. Change Casa del Bamrapido to the NW mined bonus grass. Worker 1 NW-NW (going to road to the fish/game) Spearman 4 W to Jaen. Worker 22 N-NW-N. Swap Valencia from the mined bonus grass to the S roaded flood plains. Juggle with Seville/Toledo so : Seville uses the NW irrigated flood plains and the SE forest. Toledo uses the NE roaded forest, the E forest the mined grass, the iron hills and the mined bonus grass. Juggle with Barcelona/Madrid so : Barcelona uses the grass cow and the N mined bonus grass. Madrid uses the plains cow, the Wheat, the irrigated flood plains and the mined bonus grass. Turn 72 : 1225 BC ================= The MM at Toledo didn't quite work out. I was hoping it would complete the galley before starving to size 4, but never mind. Ciudad de la Luna produced Worker 23 and starts on Warrior. Valencia produces Worker 24. Worker 23 N-N and mines. Worker 18 W-NW. Worker 9 and Sancho Panza N-N and mine. Workers 7 and 3 mine. Worker 1 roads. Settler 21 settles Valladolid and starts on warrior. Workers 10 and 15 road. Worker 11 N. Worker 24 S and irrigates. Settler 18 NW to the hills. He's currently got a good view of a squid heading towards that Ottoman galley. This should be fun :) Settler 20 N-N. Worker 22 roads. Spearman 4 fortifies. Swap Zaragoza from the Wheat to the horses. Juggle with Seville/Toledo so : Toledo uses the mined bonus grass, mined grass, irrigated flood plains and flood plains. Seville uses the wheat and forest. Workers 12 and 20 SW-S to the horses and mine. Turn 73 : 1200 BC ================= The squid attacked the Ottoman galley. It knocked 2hp off, then lost 3 and died. Casa del Bamrapido produced Warrior 3 and starts on Barracks. Vitoria produced Warrior 4 and starts on Temple. Worker 14 NW-W-S. Worker 18 roads. Worker 11 mines. Toledo produces Galley 1 and starts on another. Worker 2 S-SW. Settler 18 N to the river hills. Settler 20 to the hills surrounded by furs. Worker 23 N-N-W to the forest NW of Casa del Bamrapido. Worker 5 S to the Ivory. Worker 6 mines. Worker 17 roads. Warrior 3 fortifies. Warrior 4 fortifies. Galley 1 W-W-W. Currently in Ocean. Turn 74 : 1175 BC ================= France offers me World Map for World Map and Currency. For some reason we don't think that's enough. She hasn't got enough currently. The English offer me World Map for World Map and Code of Laws. England are behind a bit. I let them have Code of Laws for World Map and 23g. She said "It's agains my better judgement, but we'll take it."! I thought she got a really good deal! We lost Galley 1. That didn't take long, can't wait to read how everyone else managed to circum-navigate the globe without losing a single Galley:) Murcia produced Warrior 5, starts on Worker. Changes to work the Cow, the irrigated plains, the plains NE-NW, the forest N-NW. Worker 2 chops forest. Workers 19 & 24 W. Workers 10 & 15 N. Worker 13 NW. Settler 18 settles Palma and starts on Galley. Worker 14 roads. Warrior 5 fortifies. Worker 5 roads the Ivory. Worker 23 chops forest. Workers 16 & 22 complete the road to the furs, and move NW to the hills. Settler 20 NW. Whoah. Madrid is currently going produce way to much food/shields. Change to use the grass cow, unimproved grass, irrigated floodplains, unimproved floodplains, river plains. Change Barcelona to use the plains cow and both N-NE mined bonus grass. Change Valencia to use the mined grass and mined bonus grass. Change Seville to use the N Wheat and the roaded forest. Change Zaragoza to use the NE mined bonus grass, the Wheat and the irrigated flood plains. Change Aldea de Ribbanah to use the mined bonus grass, roaded bonus grass and the Wheat. India have Construction, Zulus have Currency/Code of Laws. India : Construction (257g + 14gpt) Zulus : 484g + Construction (253g + 18gpt) France : 4g Celts : 21g Ottomans : 326g England : 0g There's a bit of gold around, but not enough to make back the loss of buying Construction. Turn 75 : 1150 BC ================= Madrid produces Settler 22. Workers 10 & 15 mine. Worker 21 roads. Workers 16 and 22 road. Settler 20 settles Cordoba, starts on Worker. Worker 1 N. Worker 9 E and mines. Sancho Panza W-W-N. Workers 19 & 24 irrigate. Workers 6 & 8 N-NE. Worker 13 roads. Settler 22 N-NE-NE. Turn 76 : 1125 BC ================= Zulus just completed The Great Library. India switch to The Great Wall and completed it. Jaen produced Warrior 6 and starts another. Valencia produced Worker 25 and starts another. Barcelona produced Settler 23 and starts Temple. Asturias produced Warrior 6 and starts another. Worker 1 roads. Change Vitoria from SW-W mined bonus grass to mined Wheat. Ottomans now have Polytheism (310g, I think they researched it), Construction (331g + 7gpt) and 322g. Celts Construction (333g + 8gpt) France Construction (345g + 4gpt) and 21g. Zulus Polytheism (324g), Construction (333g + 8gpt) and 95g. India Polytheism (283g), Construction (345g + 4gpt) and 280g. It would be nice to buy Polytheism and trade it towards Construction. It seems unlikely that Celts/France will be able to trade Polytheism from the others as they have no gold and the others already have Construction. I'll wait until I think I have enough gold, or the last turn of the QSC :) Change Seville to use the 2 unimproved floodplains. Juggle Madrid/Barcelona so : Madrid uses the Wheat, both Cows and the roaded forest. Barcelona uses the 2 N mined bonus grass. Change Murcia to use the Cow, both irrigated plains, the irrigated flood plains and the roaded grass. Turn 77 : 1100 BC ================= Murcia produces Worker 26. Worker 26 SW-W and mines. Worker 25, 10, 11 & 15 NW-NW-N. Workers 24 and 19 road. Workers 12 and 20 chop forest. Workers 17 N-W to forest. Worker 5 completes the road to the Ivory. Moves N-N then irrigates the plains. Seville uses the N irrigated floodfplains, the NE floodplains and the SE forest. Swap Santiago from the forest to the roaded river grass. Turn 78 : 1075 BC ================= A squid with 2hp just attacked the 1hp Ottomans galley (note there has been a Zulu galley moving N for a while now) and lost. Santiage produced Worker 27. Settler 23 NE-E-NE. Workers 10, 11, 15 & 25 NE. Worker 26 N. Worker 21 N and mines. Warrior 6 N-N-N. Worker 17 chops forest. Workers 2 & 4 E. Settler 22 W. Workers 16 & 22 NW-W to the bonus grass. Worker 1 & Sancho Panza NW to the game. Workers 3 & 7 road. Worker 9 mines. Change Logrono from Warrior to Worker. Worker 27 N-NE-NE. Move Madrid citizen from Wheat to irrigated flood plains. Swap Toledo citizen from irrigated floodplains to iron hills. Move Murcia citizen from forest to irrigated plains. Move Aldea de Ribbanah citizen from the NE-N mined bonus grass to the NE grass. Move Zaragoza citizen from the irrigated floor plains to the mined bonus grass. Move Seville citizen from forest to Wheat and from floodplains to irrigated floodplains. Turn 79 : 1050 BC ================= Zaragoza just produced Temple, starts on Worker. Logrono produces Worker 28. Madrid produces Settler 24 and starts on another (I think the last). Settler 23 N-N-NE. A Celtic galley just appear E of Settler 23. I think it's unlikely to have a Settler in it because I've seen a couple wandering around on the edge of our borders. OTOH one of them may have just moved into the galley. It would be a real bummer if they landed before Settler 23 gets it's chance. I abandon the plan to road with Worker 1 and Sancho Panza and use them to block the coast just in case. Worker 1 NE, Sancho Panza N. Workers 27 & 28 N. Workers 10, 11, 15 & 25 road. Worker 26 roads. Settler 24 N-NE-NE. Workers 2 & 4 clear forest. Workers 6 & 8 N-W. Warrior 6 N-E-NE. Worker 16 roads. Worker 22 mines. Settler 22 W. Workers 19 & 24 NW-N and irrigate. Change Valencia to the 2 N irrigate floodplains. Change Zaragoza to the Wheat, irrigate flood plains, horses, NE mined bonus grass and N roaded grass. Change Aldea de Ribannah to the forest, Wheat, roaded grass and S mined bonus grass. Change Seville to the Wheat, N irrigated flood plains E-SE mined bonus grass. Move Madrid citizen from forest to mined bonus grass. Change Murcia from irrigated plains to gold mountains. Turn 80 : 1025 BC ================= English complete The Colossus. Murcia produces Worker 29 and starts on Temple. Valencia produces Worker 30 and starts on Temple. Toledo produces Galley 2 and starts another. Warrior 6 fortifies on the hill. Workers 18 & 21 N. Settler 22 settles Teruel and starts on Warrior. Worker 2 mines. Lots of MM so that : Madrid uses the grass Cow, Wheat, mined bonus grass, roaded forest. Barcelona uses the plains cow and 2 N mined bonus grass. Seville uses NW-NW/N/NE-NE irrigated floodplains. Aldea de Ribannah uses the Wheat, S mined bonus grass, NE mined grass, NE-NE grass. Zaragoza uses the Wheat, 2*mined bonus grass, horses, N roaded grass. Somehow the English now have Polytheism and Construction. I guess they researched Polytheism. France now have Polytheism. OK, I think we better do this while the Celts don't have Polytheism. Trade World Map+264g to England for Polytheism. Trade Polytheism, World Map+266g to the Celts for Construction. The Ottomans have Monotheism, I guess that's 'cos they're scientific. Turn 81 : 1000 BC ================= Celts request a territory map. We refuse. Seville produces Barracks and starts on Warrior. Aldea de Ribannah complete Temple and starts on Barracks. We must have lost Galley 2, didn't see it happen! Settler 23 settles Almeria, starts on Warrior. Worker 18 roads, Worker 21 mines. Worker 5 S and irrigates. Worker 13 N. MM so : Valencia uses N irrigated floodplains. Madrid use both Cows, the Wheat and 2*irrigated floodplains. Barcelona uses 3*mined bonus grass. Zaragoza uses the mined bonus grass rather than the SW-SW mined bonus grass. Aldea de Ribannah uses the NE-N mined bonus grass rather than the grass. Asturias uses the NW mined bonus grass and NW-N bonus grass. Casa del Bamrapido uses the SW and SW-S mined bonus grass. Vitoria uses the mined Wheat a 2*mined bonus grass. The Celts have 2 workers, but I haven't got much gold, and loads of workers. Change lux to 50% to make everyone happy for the end of turn.
