The unit is linked to the city of origin: people are native from this city, and will fight better and have a higher morale if they are in the city radius. They also have a chance to side with the rebel if their city enters rebellion, even if they are far away. On the other hand, police duties or martial law will be more efficient if done by local than foreigners.

They will also move faster and have ambush bonuses when fighting in the city radius, as they have support for the population, and know the terrain better.

The city has an increased risk of rebellion when a unit from this city suffers casualties.

These effects will fade a bit at the end of the game, when new technologies such as conscription or national army become available.
